my toothbrush (has a first name)
looking at myself making snarling and gaping faces in the mirror while brushing my teeth (i am not beyond making the faces without the brushing), this hot, fourth of july morning, i decided, for the third or fourth time (at least), to start this blog. why initiative won out over inertia this time is a mystery to me. perhaps it was the patriotic fervor i felt when my alarm went off at 8am. or perhaps it was my boyish amazement with the world which was reawakened (really, albeit briefly) by last night’s beautiful fireworks over gardener’s bay.
so, here’s the rub (or the scrub, as it were). i recently started using these toothbrushes made by preserve. they have a simple, elegant design, they work great (apparently a toothbrush needs not have an extreme-sports-worthy grip and neon bristles to remove plaque), and they are both recycled and recyclable.
preserve also makes razors, mixing bowls, cutting boards, measuring cups, tableware, and more (none of which i have tried), all out of recycled yogurt containers and other polypropylene items (that’s number 5 in the recycling symbol for us laypersons). and you can donate your clean and empties to them at whole foods markets and other locations, or by mail. preserve toothbrushes even come in a postage paid reply mailer, made out of recycled plastic, of course.
